BRIEF HISTORY OF MT. HEBRON BAPTIST CHURCH
Mt. Hebron Baptist Church began as a little mission. It was organized in Meriden, Connecticut at an outdoor gathering in a lot on Veteran Street on April 22nd. 1943. Under the leadership of J.F. Thompson and Rev. L.S. Rhodes. Soon Rev. Thompson was called to Delaware and Rev. Rhodes assumed the responsibilities as Pastor.
He served for a time and then resigned, the mission had lost both it's leaders. Rev. Blue Sr. served as Pator for the struggling church and soon Rev. Rhodes returned to the pulpit as Pastor until Rev. F.H.Hicks succeeded him on July 29th. 1951. Under Rev. Hicks the church incorporated and became Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. The activities of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church began to expand with several organizations being formed. Rev. Hicks served as Pastor faithfully for thirty two years until his health started to fail him. The church realizing that Rev. Hicks needed an assistant called Rev. Booker T. Sinclair who was a minister at Zion Baptist Church of Waterbury on May 1st. 1982.
God continued to smile upon the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and richly bless the church with many additions and new organizations being formed. On April 10th. 1986 God called Rev. Hicks home to glory and Mt. Hebron suffered a great loss, but God continued his promise and Rev. Sinclair became Pastor. Only four short years later Pastor Sinclair was also called home to glory. The members continued to trust in God and on April 2nd. 1989 Rev. Young was installed as Pastor of Mt. Hebron. He was an Associate Minister from Feb.7th, 1988 to March 12th. 1989.On June 22nd, 1993 Pastor Young consented to serve as the first full time pastor of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. The church has been under the spiritual leadership and guidance of Pastor Young for twenty two years now.
And under his Pastoralship numerous programs have been implemented. Today the little mission of about fifteen has grown to four hundred members.In addition Mt. Hebron Baptist Church is affiliated with the National Baptist Convention and is a lifetime member of the NAACP , The Connecticut State Missionary Baptist Convention Inc., The American Baptist Convention.
